Robert J.Powell

Robert J. Powell (b. 1932), a native of Mississippi, received his BM in organ and composition at Louisiana State University (1954), and a Master of Sacred Music at Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music (1958). He holds certificates of Fellow (FAGO) and Choirmaster (ChM) from the American Guild of Organists. As a composer and member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, he has over 300 works in print for choral, solo, organ, handbells, and instrumental ensembles.

He has served as church musician, organist, choirmaster in several congregations (including The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York) in Mississippi, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, where he presently organist at Trinity United Methodist Church, Greenville, SC. He and his wife of 50 years have 3 children, and 4 grandchildren.
