Gerald Near has studied composition with Leo Sowerby at the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago, IL. While a student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, he studied with Leslie Bassett (composition), Robert Glasgow (organ), and Elizabeth Green (conducting). Further composition study has been with Dominick Argento, University of Minnesota. Mr. Near has a wide variety of experience as a church musician from his high school days to the present, from Dallas to Denver to New Mexico and Arizona, from choral writing to organ composition.
