What is LetUsPray?
LetUsPray is a weekly prayer litany published by the LCMS for both the three-year lectionary series and the one-year lectionary series. Written to be used during the Prayer of the Church in the Divine Service, LetUsPray assists the congregation in its worship life. The prayers not only add variety through their use as a Proper, but also bring the worshiper back to the assigned readings for the day. For example, here is one of the prayers following the Three-Year Lectionary, Series C, for the Third Sunday after the Epiphany:
For the sick, the hospitalized and the dying; and for the grieving, especially for _____________ and for all those who care for them, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
Matthew 8:1–13 is the Gospel reading for Epiphany 3 which recounts Jesus' healing of a leprous man in verses 1-4 and the healing of a centurion's servant in verses 5-13. This account beautifully illustrates God's mercy by recounting a miracle meant to show us that Jesus delights to heal us not only when present, but also when far way. Indeed a comforting passage to bear in mind while we pray, post-ascension.
