Russell Schulz-Widmar was born north of Chicago into a family of German and Dutch immigrants. His music degrees are from Valparaiso University, The School of Sacred Music at Union Seminary, NYC, and The University of Texas at Austin. For thirty-five years, he was Professor of Liturgical Music at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin. He chaired the hymn committee of the current Episcopal Hymnal and co-edited the New Hymnal for Colleges and Schools by Yale University Press. He was President of the Hymn Society in the U.S. and Canada. He has more than 150 pieces of music in publication, mostly for choir or organ. He now lives in Berlin.
