Dr. William Braun serves as professor of music at Wisconsin Lutheran College, where he has taught since 1992. He also serves as choir director and organist at St. John’s Lutheran in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. He is known for his many compositions and scholarly accomplishments.
Dr. Braun teaches music history, theory, composition, arranging, and appreciation. He has directed the Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Choir, developed a chamber music series for the college, and taught organ and recorder ensembles. Previously, Dr. Braun served as music department chair and associate professor of music at Arkansas College, where he directed the choir and taught voice, music history, and conducting. He has also taught at schools in New York, Illinois, and Indiana.
As a scholar, Dr. Braun has published articles in The Journal of the Lutheran Historical Conference, the American Choral Review, the Journal of the Conductors Guild, the Choral Journal, The Opera Journal, the International Choral Bulletin, The Journal of Music, the Music Educators Journal, and many others. He has also contributed essays and articles to a number of books and received a number of grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities for advanced studies in the area of music.
His compositions and arrangements have been published by half a dozen publishers. Among his published compositions include contributions to the Lutheran Service Book.
Dr. Braun earned a DA in music history/literature from Ball State University, an MA from Long Island University, and a BS in music education from Concordia University, Nebraska.
