Richard W. Gieseke attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, studying under Dr. Carl Schalk and Dr. Richard Hillert. He had the opportunity to serve in Illinois at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Evansville; and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waterloo; and in Missouri at Word of Life Lutheran School, St. Louis; Concordia Lutheran Church, Maplewood; Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Sappington; Zion Lutheran Church, Maryland Heights; Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Bridgeton; and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Des Peres. He also had calls to Concordia Publishing House, Lutheran Hour Ministries, LCMS Foundation, and Lutheran Blind Mission. He served in congregations with smaller church choirs, providing the opportunity to write for unison and three-part choirs.

Richard enjoys retirement, finding the opportunity to spend time each day writing at least a few measures. He lives with his wife, Susan, in Manchester, Missouri.
